News Release: Concerns for Canada / US Border Security

January 29, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has proposed deporting non-Canadians who participate in hate activities in Canada.

L4SI confirms the need to seek deportation of any non-Canadians participating in hate activities in Canada.

In addition, Canada’s Gaza Program, which is seeking to bring thousands of individuals from Hamas-dominated territory into Canada as temporary “visitors”, is being done without adequate security and background checks.

We point out that the security and background checks for visitors are not the same robust security and background checks that are used for individuals who seek permanent residence.

We are requesting President Trump and Prime Minister Trudeau to make immediate inquiries about the “light” security and background checks for Canada’s Gaza Program, which automatically gives three years to be in Canada, for individuals coming from Hamas-dominated territory.

If any temporary “visitor” were to make a refugee claim in Canada during their three-year temporary visit, there would be additional four years before the refugee claim could have an oral hearing. Thus, a temporary “visitor” could be in Canada for seven (7) years, before the refugee claim is heard.

L4SI recommends abandoning the current “light” security and background checks being used in Canada’s Gaza Program; an immediate suspension of all Gaza Program visitor visas that have been the product of “light” security and background checks; and, the immediate use of regular security and background checks that are used for permanent residence applications, due to the risk to Canada and the USA.

This is a clear and preventable risk for Canada and the USA. We call upon President Trump and Prime Minister Trudeau to help reduce the risk for both countries, by deporting non-citizens who participate in hate activities in either Canada or the USA, and to stop the current “light” security and background checks being used in Canada’s Gaza Program as this presents a needless risk for both our countries.
